Conversations about Clay and other fun stuff

One of the things that has always thrilled me about working in this medium, is that I can make lots of different things. They might be functional, or they might not be of much use at all except to look at them.

Lately, I have been having fun with creating visual representations of English terms or phrases, that to the English Language Learner might be imagined to mean something completely different! Image is the root word of imagine, right? So what image comes to mind when you hear the word Butterfly. Might it mean a fly that likes butter?

I was a school teacher, and sometimes even today I work with people for whom English is not their first language. I think of words like “table leg”,  “arm chair”, “tail light”, “walnut”, “batter’s box”… what comes to mind?
